Trailer Park Boys: The Misadventures of Julian, Ricky and Bubbles
The popular Canadian television series ‘Trailer Park Boys’
was created by Mike Clattenberg and premiered on the Showcase television
network in 2001. Although the show ended in 2007 after its 7th season,
there were still some loose strings to tighten up. On December 7, 2008,
a special entitled ‘Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys’ aired on
Showcase. Finally, on September 25, 2009, the film ‘Countdown to
Liquor Day’ debuted in Canada to wrap up the series.
‘Trailer Park Boys’ takes place at the fictitious trailer
park of Sunnyvale, where the three main characters, Julian, Ricky and
Bubbles, come up with new and often ridiculous ways to get rich so that
they can retire as soon as humanly possible. Jim Lahey, the trailer park
supervisor, and his assistant Randy, usually ruin the boys’ insidious
plans and cause one or more characters to end up in jail. This comical
scenario repeats itself throughout the run of the show.
Meet the Boys and their Domain
- Julian, the leader of the trailer park boys, is often
the one who devises and directs their ‘get rich quick’ schemes.
He is somewhat educated, wears black clothes, and is always seen with
a rum and coke in his hand.
- Ricky, the troublemaker of the group, is totally
irresponsible. He is usually seen drinking alcohol, smoking marijuana
and cigarettes, and babbling something completely nonsensical.
- Bubbles, the most responsible and innocent of the
trio, is constantly trying to get his buddies Julian and Ricky out of
trouble. He wears trademark large coke-bottle glasses, loves to take
care of his kitties, lives in a shed, and fixes shopping carts for a
living. Bubbles from ‘Trailer Park Boys’ is perhaps the
most popular character on the show.
Other Important Characters in ‘Trailer Park Boys’
- Jim Lahey, the trailer park supervisor, is an alcoholic
who enjoys foiling the boys’ plans, and relentlessly tries his
best to land them back into prison.
- Randy, the ‘shirtlelss’ assistant trailer
park supervisor, makes it his life-long goal to impress Mr. Lahey in
whatever manner he can imagine.
- Sarah and Lucy, best friends, have both been in a
relationship with Ricky at some point in their lives, with Lucy still
somewhat attached as they have a child together.
- J-Roc, a white rapper, is typically seen helping
Julian, Ricky and Bubbles with their projects, at times purchasing for
them the necessary equipment to execute their plans.
- Cory and Trevor, the boys’ two lackeys, are
mistreated by Julian, Ricky and Bubbles, and must carry out the dirty
jobs that the boys do not want to do themselves.
A Bit of Trivia about the Boys:
- The car that Mr. Lahey drives belongs to Rob Wells (Ricky)
- The beat down car that Ricky lives in belongs to director Mike Clattenberg
- Mike Smith, who is in the role of Bubbles, plays guitar in real life
- Mike Smith owns a cat named Bubbles
