TV Show Posters
Ultimate Dysfunctional Found in Simpsons Posters
Since it debuted on December 17, 1989, The
Simpsons has wooed audiences of all ages. In
1997, The Simpsons surpassed The Flintstones
as the longest-running prime time animated series
and is currently the longest-running American
sitcom ever created. In addition, the television
family has won numerous Emmy Awards. The popularity
of the show can be seen in viewer ratings and
merchandise sales, especially Simpsons posters.
The show’s success
The show has been renewed and, in 2007, The
Simpsons will celebrate its 400th episode. The
Simpsons was the first animated program in prime
time since The Flintstones. During most of the
1980s, animated shows were seen as being for
kids. But thanks to the advent of affordable,
high quality technology, The Simpsons broke
barriers and eventually led to an explosion
of new animated shows for prime time in the
1990s, such as South Park and
Family Guy. The show has won
dozens of awards since its debut and, on January
14, 2000, the Simpsons were awarded a star on
the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The
Family
There are six main cast members on
The Simpsons who perform nearly all of the voices
of the show’s main and secondary characters.
The main character, Homer Simpson, is a good-hearted
father and husband whose short attention span
often leads him into outrageous adventures.
His wife, Marge, is his complete opposite. The
family’s son Bart is a ten-year-old troublemaker
while their eight-year old daughter Lisa is
an extremely intelligent, often activist child.
Finally, their baby Maggie can’t yet speak
and spends her time crawling around and falling
over. Interestingly enough, The Simpsons, for
an unknown reason, do not physically age.
Breaking boundaries
The show has been adopted in countless
countries. Because of differences in cultures,
however, foreign countries sometimes have to
adjust the material to suit their audiences.
The show touches an array of controversial topics
that non-animated shows sometimes can’t.
The family practices a form of Protestant Christianity
and regularly attends Sunday service. In one
episode, Lisa became a Buddhist and in another,
Bart and Homer became Catholics. The show has
also featured all of the major religions through
the family’s travels around the world.
Aside from religion, the show has been rife
with political satire over the years. It has
made fun of politicians and other world leaders
such as former U.S. presidents Clinton and Bush.
In one episode, George H. W. Bush moved across
the street from the Simpsons and he and Homer
became archenemies while their wives enjoyed
a healthy friendship.
Where
is Springfield?
A question that has boggled viewers for years is the geographic
location of the town of Springfield. Writers have always kept the state
where it is located a secret. The name Springfield was chosen because
it is a common city name, appearing in more than thirty states.
Catch phrases
The show has come to be known to many through the numerous catch phrases
of its characters. Examples of such catch phrases include Homer's famous
annoyed grunt "D'oh!", Mr. Burns' "Excellent..." and
Nelson Muntz's "Ha-ha!". Bart also has his own catch phrases,
which became extremely popular. "¡Ay, caramba!", "Don't
have a cow, man!" and "Eat my shorts!" were featured on
t-shirts in the early days of the show's run. A seemingly infinite amount
of Simpsons posters feature these and other catch phrases.
The legacy lives on
The Simpsons have become a world-known family.
The show has won numerous awards and featured
countless guest voices during its long run.
Through it all, it has managed to maintain an
audience and attract new fans with an average
of 9.2 million viewers per episode in United
States alone. We’ve come to know the family
as the ultimate dysfunctional family. The Simpsons
have left their mark on history and, even once
gone, will always be remembered. A terrific
way to possess a piece of the legacy known would
be to own Simpsons posters. Join the dysfunction.
