Sex and the City: I could not help but wonder…A cultural phenomenon, Sex and the City took the television and fashion world by storm, premiering on June 6, 1998 on HBO. It aired a total of 94 episodes during six seasons, with devoted fans assessing the characters every step of the way, and eventually following them to the big screen. Partly based on Candace Bushnell’s book of the same title, Sex and the City is set in New York City and follows the lives of four women, Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha. The show tackled exciting issues such as safe sex and promiscuity, and was praised for its candid look at women and sex. Fashionista Heaven Costume designer Patricia Fields created a distinct style for each of the women:
Sex and the City on the Big Screen Carrie and Mr. Big decide to get married and plans grow to epic proportions, but Big begins to have doubts. Miranda is dealing with the reality of learning that Steve has had an affair, and in a fit of disappointment, tells Big that he and Carrie are simply crazy to get married. Meanwhile, Samantha is living with Smith in Malibu, and having trouble adjusting to the routine of a committed relationship. And Charlotte is living a happy life with Harry and their adopted daughter Lily. Naturally, nothing goes as planned and the four women end up going on Carrie’s honeymoon after Big gets cold feet. Upon their return, Carrie gets back to business, Miranda and Steve work things out, Charlotte finds out she is pregnant, and Samantha leaves Smith to move back home to New York. And of course, Mr. Big comes back to sweep Carrie off her Manolos! A second Sex and the City movie is set for release in May of 2010, and while details of the plot have been closely guarded, there have been pictures of the women dressed in a an array of exciting styles, which may include some flashback scenes. During its six-season run, Sex and the City garnered 50 Emmy Award nominations, winning seven, and was nominated for 24 Golden Globes, winning eight, including Best TV Series for three consecutive years.
