O.C. Posters Capture the Show’s Drama

The O.C has transformed the soap opera by mixing comedy and drama. Broadcast in more than 50 countries around the world, the Fox show follows the lives of young adults and their families growing up in affluent Orange County, California. Immediately after it was first aired in 2003, the show became a hit. It’s the first teen drama to capture audiences since Beverly Hills 90210 over a decade ago. O.C. posters reflect the popularity of the show’s skyrocketing ratings.

Some Characters
Ryan Atwood is the show’s main character. He’s a troubled teenager from Chino who, after being thrown out by his mother, is taken in by the Cohens. Ryan struggles to adjust with the life of wealth and privilege. He had an on and off relationship with Marissa Cooper.

Seth is the son of Sandy and Kirsten Cohen. He is a funny and sarcastic character who constantly enjoys making dry, witty jokes about the situations around him. Somewhat of a nerd, Seth’s popularity rose after his parents took in Ryan. He was also the love interest of Summer Roberts.

Summer Roberts and Seth Cohen dated for some time. After their break up, Summer found moving on difficult. When she went off to college, she struggled to adjust to her new life without Seth and her best friend Marissa. Summer has become somewhat of an environmentalist to help her get through Marissa’s death.

Marissa Cooper battled with drug and alcohol addiction as a result of tumultuous relationships with her parents, boyfriends and fellow classmates. She was Summer's best friend and Ryan's on and off love interest. She was killed in a car accident after her last boyfriend, Kevin Volchok, ran her and Ryan off a cliff.

Sandy Cohen is married to Kirsten Cohen, an O.C. socialite. They have only one child, Seth. Sandy’s job as a public defender introduced him to Ryan. The couple eventually took in Ryan after his mother threw him out. Throughout the series, Sandy has served as a moral center, often guiding and supporting Seth and Ryan through their problems.

Taylor Townsend battled Marissa for full control of Harbor High School's social scene. She took over Marissa’s previous responsibilities after the car accident. When Summer and Seth realized how lonely she was, they became friends with her.

Kaitlin Cooper becomes a main character in season 4 after her sister Marissa is killed. Her personality is the opposite of her older sister. Kaitlin smokes pot, blackmails her stepfather, and acts apathetic to the death of her sister. She does not seem to have many friends other than the Ward brothers.

The show’s audience grew when the O.C. started airing directly after episodes of American Idol. The show gained popularity thanks to talented acting, an original storyline, and celebrity and musical guest appearances. The drama now appears on all types of merchandise, including O.C. posters that feature the show’s cast. Its fan base and popularity increase with every new season and will surely air for many years.
