Heroes – Saving the World, One Television Show at a Time

Heroes is a very popular TV show airing Monday nights on NBC. It is all about what it would be like for ordinary people to wake up one morning with super powers. Its appeal has spread beyond the teenage comic book fans, and has captured the attention of different age groups and both genders.

Real Life Superhero Characters
Every character in Heroes has its own super power - a policeman who can hear your thoughts, inmates who can walk through walls, junkies who paint images of the future when high, and a male nurse who might be able to fly. There is a mysterious entity that wants to round up all these new heroes, and produce a rogue character that would steal everyone’s special ability, skill or talent by cutting through their skulls and sucking out their master power!

Heroes’ peerless characters come from different parts of the world and have lived under different circumstances, but are nevertheless united in their purpose to save the world. The show definitely promotes spandex and capes with everyone dressing GQ stylishly.

Just like the other big sci-fi hit Lost, the Heroes TV show is based on its own unique mythology. The legend of Takezo Kensei, the Shanti virus, and the essence of the enigmatic paintings of the future are some of Heroes’ fictitious creations.

Mass Appeal TV Show
During the three seasons of its existence, Heroes has become an exceptional success. It has won awards for the best television show of the year from the American Film Institute, best new series from the Writers Guild of America, and best television drama from the Golden Globe, just to name a few.

The show has developed an international cult following. The public has embraced the show by showing up in masses at comic conventions, flocking to message boards, and participating in online forums. Merchandise has sprung up to cash in on the excitement. Heroes video games and action figures will be produced in panoramic display to mimic iconic moments from the series. There is a comic book series that may soon be available, quite fitting since the show is about super heroes.

The show posted great viewer ratings. In the first and second seasons it ranked at #21 with an average of 12 million viewers, but slipped to #32 in the third season. By the fourth season, the once secure Heroes TV show ratings dipped. NBC representative Angela Bromstad stated that the show is very secure in its time slot; however, that was before this season’s ratings. It no longer boasts its 14 million fans, but now brings in an average of 6.9 million viewers.
