Originally broadcast from 1994 to 2004, Friends is a sitcom about a group of six friends living in New York City. Set in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, the series was actually filmed in California. The series focused on the lives of a group of six twenty-somethings (eventually thirty-somethings) – three men and three women.

Cast of FriendsFriends Characters
We fell in love with the gang as they became our friends. Rachel, Joey, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler, and Monica have such different personalities that it’s difficult to understand the relationship that keeps them together. Phoebe, a down-to-earth type, seems like she’s on another planet most of the time. Ross is an educated, somewhat nerdy professor. Chandler tries so hard to be the funny one. For Joey, idiocy and flirting are a way of life. Monica, the perfectionist, cleans too much. And Rachel, the pretty one, just can’t seem to find love in the Big Apple. Through good times and bad, the friends support and stand by each other.

Some famous catchphrases of the series:

Ross: “We were on a break!”

Joey: "How You Doin'?"

Monica: "I KNOW!"

Janice: "Oh...My...GOD!”

Ross and Rachel
Instances of where Friends has become popular culture include the phrase "Ross and Rachel." It has come to describe an on and off relationship with some kind of history. Like the one between Ross and Rachel. From these two characters and their relationship developed the expression "Are you on a real break, or a Ross and Rachel break?"

During the 2001–2002 season, Friends was the highest rated show in the United States. Each of its characters depicts traits of someone we know. Through ten seasons, countless guest appearances and an inconceivable amount of idiocy, Friends has captured our hearts. Because the storyline and characters were so plausible, we’ve come to welcome them into our homes as our own Friends. Forget reminiscing and relive the memories with Friends posters.
