Family Guy: One Freakin’ Sweet Television Show!

Created by Seth MacFarlane in 1999, the popular animated television show ‘Family Guy’ has been broadcasted on the FOX network since its debut, and is in its 8th season as of September 2009. The show puts the dysfunctional Griffin family in the spotlight and focuses on their wacky, outrageous, and obscene adventures, which leave them totally unscathed the following episode. Most of the time, the program references and parodies American pop culture by making use of separate cutaway gags, often portrayed by a character having a flashback.

Meet the Family and their Friends

The Griffin family, who live on Spooner Street in Providence, Rhode Island, consists of the following members:

  • Peter, the overweight, dim-witted father who has a blue-collar job working at the toy factory to provide for his loved ones – he is the family guy
  • Lois, an attractive stay at home mother who tries to keep the family together and teaches piano in her spare time
  • Chris, the portly teenage son who unfortunately inherited his father’s attitude and many of his negative traits
  • Meg, the confused and self-conscious teenage girl who wants desperately to be part of the popular crowd
  • Stewie, a very sophisticated infant with an extremely devilish personality
  • Brian, the pet dog that can talk, drink, smoke and drive, and is highly anthropomorphized.

Other important characters include neighbors Cleveland Brown, a very slow talking Deli owner; Joe Swanson, a paraplegic police officer; Glenn Quagmire, an airplane pilot and sexual deviant; and Mort Goldman, a paranoid and nerdy pharmacist.

Some of the lesser reoccurring figures are Tom Tucker, Diane Simmons and Trisha Takanawa, who are all part of a TV news program watched by the Griffin family; Herbert, an elderly and homosexual pedophile; and bumbling mayor Adam West, who is voiced by the real Adam West.
