Dancing with the Stars Cast

Lately, there has been an influx of reality TV shows. One, in particular, has really grabbed the audience’s attention and has held it for many seasons. The show is called ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and it is a pure and simple hit!

The Show’s Onset
Dancing with the Stars is based on the UK version known as Strictly Come Dancing. It made its debut in June 2005, presenting 6 couples who competed in a variety of dance styles. It became so popular with audiences, that it returned at the beginning of 2006 and has been going strong ever since.

What is it all about?
The participating celebrities are not professional dancers, although they are paired with professionals. The competition is fierce. The show sends a positive message, deeming that if these amateurs can learn to dance the tango, Viennese waltz, and Paso Doble, then anyone can. Ballroom dancing has increased in popularity and dance studios are teeming with eager students wanting to learn to dance like the pros. The show also boasts that, aside from being fun, dancing is a great way to get into shape.

And why is it so popular?
What makes the show so appealing? There are several factors that contribute to its popularity, but the main reason is the public’s interest in the Dancing with the Stars cast, of course. People are generally curious about celebrities, and the program provides them with not only an insight into their life, but also a chance to see how they perform outside of their element. Viewers enjoy watching the ‘great ones’ stumble, guessing at who will improve the most, chuckling at the awkward ones, and speculating on who will win the sought-after trophy!

The Dancing with the Stars Cast
Like any other TV show, if the cast is intriguing and captivating, then people will want to tune in to watch what happens. The exciting thing about this show is that it introduces personalities from various fields of work. There have been singers, actors, sports figures, entrepreneurs, comedians and more!

It is not surprising that some figures are more popular than others. Over the seasons, there have been a few Dancing with the Stars contestants that became instant fan favourites.

In season 3, talk show host Jerry Springer endeared audiences with his dance partner Kym Johnson and stayed longer than anyone thought, leaving in week 7. Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff also grabbed the audience’s attention by taking their relationship off the dance floor!

Season 5 had a number of favourites including Sabrina Bryan of the Cheetah Girls and partner Mark Ballas, a remarkably talented couple that was shockingly eliminated early in the competition. That had everyone buzzing. Also competing that season were celebrities Marie Osmond, who fainted after her performance, Spice Girl Mel B and Indy racer Helio Castroneves.

Season 7 had the audience in stitches with Cloris Leachman and partner Corky Ballas. Leachman may not have been the best dancer but the viewers loved her showmanship and kept her around till week 7. Soap vet Susan Lucci was also part of the cast of season 7 and the winners, Brooke Burke and Derek Hough were definite fan favs.

Season 8 brought Melissa Rycroft, a former participant on The Bachelor, and partner Tony Dovolani to the dance floor. Although the audience adored her, it was Gilles Marini of Sex and the City fame who captured all of the women’s attention!
