American Idol Posters beat the Competition

American Idol has become one of the biggest and most popular reality shows of all time. The television series originated in the United Kingdom as a singing contest to determine the best "undiscovered" young singers in the country. In recent years, it has become one of the most highly publicized music competitions in the world, and many countries have developed their own versions of Idol. The judges

Randy Jackson is somewhat of a middle ground between Abdul and Cowell, dishing out generally constructive criticism that is slightly buttered.

The judges screen the waves of contestants in order to narrow down the search to 12 great potential singers. Viewers then have to vote for their favorite. In the end, the winner is chosen by the fans, not the judges.

Some American Idols
The first American Idol was Kelly Clarkson, who immediately signed a record deal and released two chart-topping singles.

Although Ruben Studdard emerged as the winner with the most votes in Season 2, the runner-up Clay Aiken stole the show. Clay has enjoyed great popularity, emerging as one of the show's true breakout stars. Surprisingly, very little has been heard of Ruben. Season 2 also introduced William Hung who became popular following his appalling rendition of Ricky Martin's "She Bangs." His performance, as well as his attitude facing criticisms, landed him a record deal and many fans. Ironically, a lack ofSimon's talent granted Hung more fame than most of the other finalists.

The following seasons have seen idols such as Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Hicks capture the spotlight with music styles that mainstream audiences have enjoyed, thanks to the show. American Idol has opened the door to many young singers who would not otherwise have been exposed and discovered as true talent.

The success
